96 mustang changed the alternator yesterday the...?
battery is about 1 1/2 years old but now the battery light on dash is going crazy and battery looks hot and a little smoke. Checked alternator it is installed right what now??

Take the alternator off and have it bench tested at your local auto parts store. Also take the battery out and have them charge and test it too. Sounds like either the voltage regulator is bad and overcharging, or the battery has a shorted cell.

alternator most likely overcharging and boiling your battery.
Take it back.
It is most likely regulator and that will over charge and the points on those will stick charge until it cooks the battery.That is what i believe
is wrong with it.
