im changing the alternator on my vauxhall astra tomorrow morning, just wanted to know if anyone had any previous experience or tips to help make the job a little easier? its an astra 1.7 tdi x reg cheers dudes|||i did my vectra alternator a couple of years ago and found that it wouldn%26#039;t come out through the bottom of the car so i had to dismantle the bits on the left hand side of the engine bay to get it out. not sure if you will have the same problem but just in case that%26#039;s the solution. luckily it wasn%26#039;t too fiddly|||if its vaux engine, i done my ex%26quot;s, easy enough, although bottom bolt can be a bit fidderly, make sure bottom bolt is in, first time i did it she was driving round for 3 days and it wasnt mounted properly, just take your time, know more than an hour should see job done|||before you put it in make sure it is good took me a whole day one time was new but wasnt no good they rebuild them so they just gave me another one still a whole day .when i assumed it was good|||As I recall the power steering pump needs to be moved before it will come out.
Make sure you disconnect the battery first.
