I need help changing an alternator in a 97 Ford F150. HELP!!?

I dont have the Haynes manual and cant really afford 1. What kind of tools do I need and how difficult is it? Anyone know a good website that gives instructions?|||Can you afford another alternator and a new battery and a new computer and a new wiring harness and towing? Get the Haynes.|||I dont%26#039; know if there is a website for it but it%26#039;s not that difficult. You%26#039;ll need to disconnect your battery and remove a couple of bolts that the alternator is connected to the engine with. There will be 2 wires on the back of the alternator that you%26#039;ll have to disconnect (remember where they went for the new alternator). And you%26#039;ll have to take off your serpentine belt.





Just replace the new one in reverse order of the old one. The one thing to note is the tension of your serpentine belt. I know some of the newer F150s have an automatic sensor so you dont%26#039; have to worry about how tight it is but I%26#039;m not sure about the %26#039;97.





Best of luck.|||you can go to auto zones,help site they might have a part there for this,the addy is,,www autozone.com/help,,,good luck with it,have a good x-mas.|||all you need is a set of metric wrenches just make sure you disconnect the battery first to avoid injury and damage to your electrical system. then it%26#039;s just a matter of removing the belt and the bolts holding the alternator in|||Get one of the local gearheads to do it for you. They aren%26#039;t that hard to do, BUT you have no tools then you%26#039;re in trouble to start. Purchasing the tools need would probably cost you more then having it done.


Disconnect the positive(+) cable from the battery. Using a Breaker Bar with correct socket size, release the tensioner (idler pully) and remove serpentine belt. Disconnect wiring harness at rear of alternator. Using a 3/8 rachet, or open/close wrench, loosen upper mounting bolt. DO NOT completely remove at this point. Find where the alternator is mounted to the engine block and totally remove that bolt. Placing a hand under the unit for support, finish removing the upper bolt.


Reverse this procedure to reinstall new, rebuilt, alternator.


After you have completed the installation, start vehicle and allow it to run for 5-10 minutes. Check the gauge on dash cluster, if so equipped, to insure unit is funcational. This allow resets computer memories.|||Unplug the battery, unplug the alternator, put a break over bar or long handled socket wrench on the belt tensioner and remove the belt. Then Remove the bolts that mount it on, put the new one on, bolt it up, put the belt back on, plug in the altanator and reconnect the battery! Its simple!!!
