What is the labor cost of changing a alternator in a 1990 Oldsmobile Silohutte?

My alternator went out and want to find the right price before shopping w/ mechanics for the right price|||It should be about an hours work. That said expect it to be as high as an hour and a half. The cost should be about $50 - $100 for this job depending on where you live.

It used to take about 20 - 30 minutes to do this sort of thing, but newer cars have so much stuff in the way that it now takes longer.|||about 35$ plus parts|||well if u lived in washington labor cost would be 40.00 that for my shop cost. but u can do it ur self. all it is two bolt and maybe stablelizer bakets ahd remove the neg cable frist|||depends what engine is in it....if it has anything but a DOHC 3.4 then one to an hour and a half....if it has the morphodite 3.4 then it%26#039;s more like four or five hours because of its horrible location|||Most mechs charge between 50 - 75 an hour Ask what there rate is ,,, an alternator isnt a hard thing to do for anyone and should not take a mech more than 1%26amp;1/2 hours on even the hardest of alternators. never go to a dealership the will do sevear damage to youre wallet. also all mecanics charge you more just to order the part even though they pay less.|||The cost of the alternator, IF you do it yourself!

The job is not hard.

You will need a breaker bar or strong rachet (breaker bar recommended) socket to fit, depending on type of tensioner,

Pull tensioner to slack, remove belt.

(Try to keep belt on other pullys as it is easier to replace this way)

Remove bolts holding alt. in, (and anything that is in the way)

Lift alt. out and replace in reverse order.

Pull tensioner to slack again and reset belt.

If you feel that you are unable to do this job, this is where friends with tools comes in nicely.
