That is not a good idea to do with the CS style alternator that your car has on it. You can actually overheat the alternator doing this. If the battery is discharged that alternator is not designed to charge the battery up from discharged, it is designed to maintain a charge in the battery from the slight discharge it gets from starting etc. If you haven't burned the new alternator up charging the battery than you are in luck and you need to hook the battery up to a battery charger and charge it. This is assuming that the battery is still good. You may need to have it tested to see what kind of condition your batter is in. Good Luck!
